Data: Taking a “flexcation” is the latest family travel trend

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, families are still finding ways to plan a getaway. With more flexible work and school arrangements, many families are embracing the idea of a “flexcation,” an emerging travel trend created by us where families rent vacation homes longer to mix work and play.

Recent research reveals travelers have more flexibility during Covid-19

Our nationwide survey of families revealed:

  • 50% of those surveyed agreed that flexible school schedules provide more flexibility in vacationing.
  • 48% said they can work from anywhere.
  • 21% of respondents said working from anywhere creates big opportunities for travel. 

 

This created big opportunities for travel in the second half of 2020.

Longer stays reduce turnkey expenses

Travel data from our platform indicates families also want to take longer vacations. With the ability to work remotely or complete online assignments anywhere there’s a WiFi connection, there’s no need for travelers to cut a weekend trip short to get back in time for class or to punch the clock on Monday morning. This also reduces turnkey expenses for partners.

How you can attract “flexcationers”

  • Update your amenities to include essentials like high-speed WiFi, kitchen, and private pools.
  • Allow pets and children. 
  • Make sure your rates are added for all of 2021 and consider discounts for longer stays.
  • Watch for unexpected spikes in demand and adjust your rates accordingly.
